I just finished reading the New Mutants relaunch through Second Coming. It reads like just another X-book, but with a poorly defined cast. I really got the impression that the writer(s) had no idea what made this cast special. And since when did Dani get such a huge chip on her shoulder? Would she really punch a childhood friend in the face THREE TIMES?
That's what I said. He was writing it during the Second Coming tie-in issues, and it was way better than Wells' stuff.
Although I actually didn't have that much of a problem with angry Dani. She was angry about having lost her powers. Pretty understandable. The same thing was going on with Rictor in X-Factor at the time.
Maybe this is just a case of looking at the past through rose-colored glasses, but I honestly think Wells was way better than Abnett and Lanning. He definitely got better as he went along. The story he wrote after Second Coming, Fall of the New Mutants/Rise of the New Mutants, is actually pretty damn good. Definitely better than anything Abnett and Lanning have done on the book so far.
I've read just about every X-book from Decimation to Second Coming, and I have no idea who that character is.
ReplyDeleteDani Moonstar's horse?
ReplyDeleteNo, that's Brightwind. Unless you're Abnett and Lanning, apparently. Just one of the many things I'm not enjoying about their run on the book.

ReplyDeleteMike Carey needs to write this book.

I guess we should give them a grace period. Some writers take a little while before they hit their stride.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Warlock and Danger would make a cute couple.
